SUMMARY:Be the scientist for the day
DESCRIPTION:As part of National Pathology week\, a ‘be the scientist for the day’ event is being held for 6 to 12 year olds with the main theme centralising around the kidneys. The children will be given lab coats and clip boards and be asked in investigate three fictional patients with kidney problems. \nThe event will be held at ThinkTank Science Museum in Birmingham and it has been arranged by the Clinical Scientists from the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. \nThe session will cover: \n\nWhere they kidneys are located in the body and what they do\nDemonstrations on how the kidneys act as filters and what happens when this process goes wrong\nWhat laboratory tests can be done to assess kidney function (looking at urine dipsticks and measuring creatinine)\nWhat factors can cause kidney disease and what you need to look for\n\nThere will also be a stand containing information leaflets for parents/carers so we can raise awareness of kidney function and health. \nFurther information can be found on the I Love Pathology website.
